Wicked Wednesday: Fears

Cleveland, Ohio: W.J. Morgan & Co. Lith. edited by user:mbz1 [Public domain], via Wikimedia Commons

I really don’t have phobias, but some things do scare me,
I try to keep that fear inside where others cannot see.
It’s way down deep and hidden, but it rustles in its cage,
And if it ever breaks free it will be with vicious rage.

You might think that my fears are centered around bugs or spiders,
Or maybe dogs, or the outdoors, or even big dividers,
Or certain numbers, or the dark, or maybe even snakes,
(And certainly that last one gives me shivers and the shakes).

But what I truly fear is dying way before my time,
And leaving you alone, bereft, and edging past your prime.
It’s selfish but I’d rather not have you go before me,
For life would be unbearable, and too much agony

I want you with me always, and I want to share our life,
Our happiness and sorrow, and our harmony and strife.
For our trials make us stronger and each other we complete,
And I will love you always, with a love that’s pure and sweet.
