Last week I got this great cake pan to review. It’s the Peni-cake Pan from Cal Exotics. This thing rocks! My review follows, but I wanted to share some of the cool treats I made this week.
The green one is Lime with some Schnapps added for a Jello shooter. The fleshy colored one is peach Jello with a bit of cream. Some whipped cream completed the desserts.
These were fun to decorate!
And now for the review:
The pan comes in a plastic bag with an informational header stapled on top, and information for registering it online. The pan itself is a lightweight, dark metal, and is perfect for making Jello, brownies, cakes, or other items that can be molded. It is non-tarnishing and dishwasher safe for easy cleanup.
The pan is 11 1/4″ long, 7 1/4″ wide at the base, and 3 1/2″ wide at the tip. The inner mold dimension is about 10 1/4″ long, with a ball width of 6 1/2″ and a shaft/head width of 3”. The pan is approximately 1 1/2” deep.
A standard small Jello packet (2 cup size) fills this mold just right – up to about 1/2″ from the top of the pan. You can spray the pan with a non-stick cooking spray (unflavored) so the penis slips right out of the mold, or you can run it under hot water for a few seconds to loosen it. As Jello, the penis is rather flexible, and can be arranged with a slight left or right bend if you prefer that to straight.
A box of cake mix will make 3 full penis cakes. That’s a lot of penis! The pan should be filled about 2/3 full, and the cake will rise to the top of the pan. Baking time for the cake is about 22 minutes. Spray the pan with non-stick cooking spray before baking and when cool the Peni-cake will slide right out of the pan with no sticking. Once cool, the cake can be frosted in the manner of your choosing. Coconut flakes or grated chocolate can be used to accent your creation.
This is a great novelty pan for those times when you need to have something shaped like a penis or just want to have some fun in the kitchen.
“What flavor?” he asked.
“What’s it going to be, a Hulk penis?” he asked.
Well, it did sort of look like one.
I substituted schnapps for some of the water to make it a Jello shooter. Definitely good!
I did another one with peach Jello and cream for a more realistic look.
Making the cakes was a lot of fun, although I was surprised how many a box of cake mix made! I was expecting 2, but I got 3 out of the mix without skimping the batter.
The cakes were fun to decorate. I made a blue penis, a purple penis, and a more traditional pink penis. I used white coconut flakes for ball decoration on the blue and purple cakes, and coated the coconut with chocolate for decoration on the pink cake. Grated chocolate would also work well.
I have a friend who about died when she got hers. After she got over her laughing fit (I made her a bright lime green-frosted cake one – she loves aliens), she asked to borrow the pan. She’s had it for a while now, and I hope she’s happily baking!
