Create a Scandal

October’s winding up, with just Halloween left! Red and black abound, whether on devils and grim reapers trick-or-treating down the street, or spicing up hot lingerie and bedroom accessories. It’s one of my favorite sexy color combinations, sparking heat and passion whether in the bedroom or out on the town. This month, as part of Cal Exotics’ Sexpert program, I received the Scandal Bed Restraints, which fit into the month’s color scheme, for free in exchange for this unbiased review.

scandal boxThe Scandal Bed Restraints come in a large cardboard box, and they’re shown being worn on both the front and back. The back of the box has information on the restraints. On the bottom of the box, as well as the inside, the red and black pattern of the cuffs is shown. Inside the box, all pieces are sealed in a plastic bag: four cuffs that can be used for wrists/ankles, 4 adjustable tethers, and an extension piece for oversized beds. Along with all this, you get a small paper showing the proper setup of the restraints.

scarletintheboxThe four included cuffs are identical. Each cuff is 2” wide and 11” long. On the front, they’re covered with a shiny red fabric with a black lacy design. A 1” wide Velcro strip is sewn securely down the middle. About 7” of it is the rough Velcro side, and the smooth Velcro extends about 6” off the other side, making the cuffs very adjustable. They’re long enough to fit most all sizes of wrists and ankles. If your wrists or ankles are small the cuff will overlap, and if they’re large, you’ll end up with a section of skin that’s only covered by the Velcro strip. The cuffs are lightly padded, and are covered with soft, plush black material on the inside, so they won’t irritate your skin when worn.

scarletsinglecuffOn the top of each cuff is secured a black metal O-ring (nickel-free iron), and attached to this is a swivel clip (a nickel-free alloy)for easy fastening to the tethers. Of course, you can also attach the cuffs to themselves or other rings.

The tethers are each 60” long and 1” wide. Both ends have an O-ring on the end, and one O-ring has a swivel clip attached.  The end with just the O-ring has a slide clasp (made of Polyoxymethylene, or POM), so the length of the tether can be adjusted as needed. The tethers are strong, and are made out of Polypropylene (PP). The extension piece is also 60” long and 1” wide, with an O-ring on each end.

scarletconnectorsThe tethers can be used in a variety of ways. Without the extender, they can be joined under the bed by the swivel clips and placed and shortened as necessary to restrain cuffed wrists and ankles.  For extra large beds or play surfaces, they can be attached to the O-rings of the extender in pairs – two at each end – and shortened as necessary. They can also be clipped to any other type of ring, or even wrapped around the bedposts, for a variety of play scenarios.

This set can be spot cleaned or washed in the washing machine in a lingerie bag, and hung to dry. All the pieces fold up quite small, so they can be stored in a medium-sized bag in a drawer. The large packaging box can be recycled.

So, Did It Work? I like this set of restraints! I really like the red and black design of the cuffs, and they look quite nice when I’m wearing them with red or black lingerie. I find them comfortable to wear – the cuffs overlap on my wrists, but they still look nice, and the ankle cuffs fit well.  All of the cuffs are easy to adjust, and the Velcro keeps them securely closed once they’re put on. They don’t rub painfully against my skin if I’m struggling in them, either.  I like that the cuffs have the swivel clasps on them – this way they’re ready to go if we use them with the restraints, a spreader bar, or even clipped to themselves. The cuffs can be clipped so your wrists are together or your ankles are together, or you can even clip wrist cuff to ankle cuff so you’re restrained in position.

scarletanklesThe tethers are easy to slip up under the mattress when we’re not playing, and they’re very easy to adjust. We found a few other ways to use them as well, since I seem to have a lot of apparatuses with rings these can attach to.

The Cal Exotics Scandal line has several matching pieces that can be used with this set, including a collar and leash, eye mask, paddle, ball gag, harnesses, and a spreader bar – and I think I’ll pick up a few of these to go with my set.

Kink Of The Week: Temperature Play

I dabble with mild temperature play, but decided to look up what all this encompasses. From wikipedia:

“Temperature play is a form of BDSM sensual play where objects and substances are used to stimulate the body’s neuroreceptors for heat and cold for sensual effect. Substances can include water, oil, molten wax, ice, chocolate syrup, whipped cream, melted butter, chilled fresh fruit and steamed vegetables.”

Some of that sounds a lot more like food play, some erotic and some not, quite honestly! Using steamed vegetables as a form of temp play would never have crossed my mind. Tempura play, maybe?

I’ve certainly heated and cooled my share of dildos. I have a large collection of glass and metal ones, and they work pretty nicely for this. I usually lean towards warming them rather than cooling them, mostly because sticking something cold inside me does not make me gasp from pleasure.

Of course, temperature play doesn’t always involve insertion, and what play we do is usually as foreplay and not really a kink. I’ve been both blindfolded and bound for them, although it’s not actually necessary for us.

I do like to play with ice. There’s nothing quite like my partner holding an ice cube in his fingers and running it around my nipples. Talk about instant hardness! I love the cold feel of the ice, and the wet trail it leaves behind as it melts on my skin. The cold sensation as the ice travels down from my nipples to my belly button is exquisite – and a bit painful if he decides to tease my clit with it.

I don’t play with fire, but I do like some heat. While I’ve not played a lot with wax, I do love massage candles: the feel of the hot oil as it hits my skin and the warmth it creates as my partner trails it over my back before kneading the warm oil into my skin is delicious.

That’s making me think tonight should be a massage night – I think I have a nice, new massage candle on the shelf waiting to be used…

Kink Of The Week: Tickling

I’m a pretty ticklish person, for the right touch. Yes, a feather works, but the light tracing of a finger on the bottoms of my feet or running up my sides makes me ticklish like nobody’s business. It can make me squirm and writhe and beg for mercy. If I’m not restrained, I may tickle right back, but otherwise I’ll cope and struggle.

My feet and sides aren’t the only places I’m ticklish, nor are they the places I’m the most ticklish. I’m most ticklish in my ears. If there’s one thing that drives me crazy, and can make me horny as hell, is when my partner uses his tongue and licks my ear before dipping his tongue inside. That, coupled with his breath, is the most intense tickling ever.

I have to be in the mood to be tickled. If I’m not relaxed or feeling playful, tickling my feet or sides won’t work. It’s just a rather annoying sensation – it doesn’t make me jump, or try to get away, or make me giggle (the ears, now, are a totally different story – they remain ticklish no matter what my mood). Usually if my partner sees I’m not enjoying it, he’ll stop, as he does it to be playful. Plus, he hates to be tickled, and he knows I’ll go at him with a vengeance. It’s never something he asks to do, or something I ask him to do, and it’s never a planned part of a scene or the scene itself. For us, it’s a bit of teasing before the heavy play starts, and it can also be something loving and fun afterwards.

Kink Of The Week: Bastinado

I love my feet. They aren’t the prettiest around, but I do think they look nice with painted nails, or in high heel shoes. My feet have taken a fair amount of abuse, since I used to dance (ballet among other things), and dancers aren’t the most careful with their feet. Blisters? Pop them, douse them with alum, and continue. Blood? A few Band-Aids will do. Ripped off a toenail or two? Grin and bear it. Plenty of soaking and rubbing afterwards often helped, but a lot of the pain, in the arch, ankle, and elsewhere, took a long time to go away.

I’m not huge into pain. I can take it on my ass with a crop or a flogger, and even my nipples like a pinch or two, but after enough abuse, my feet like to be pampered. No one, no how, will be hitting my feet with a cane, rod, paddle, or anything else that will make them hurt and me likely scream. And not a good scream.

I’ve seen it done in a few shoots on Kink (although I never knew the name for it, or that it was a specific kink, before this Kink Of The Week), but always in conjunction with caning on other parts of the body. After I looked it up, I found quite a few websites dedicated to the practice, and there’s even a fair number of videos on YouTube. Watching it doesn’t do anything for me, except to make me cringe a bit, because I can imagine how much it hurts.

Would I watch it at a public scene? Possibly, but it wouldn’t be a turn on. Would I do it? Hells no. It may be a turn-on for some, but definitely not for me. The only kind of bastinado I’ll get off to will be the music, with the drummer beating the drums with a stick.

Kink Of The Week: Voyeurism

Martin van Maële [Public domain], via Wikimedia Commons

Martin van Maële [Public domain], via Wikimedia Commons

I’ve admitted to being somewhat of an exhibitionist, by both writing and posting photos on my blog and other sites, as well as having some fun in public where others can potentially see. But am I a voyeur?

I love to hang out on social sites like Twitter, Facebook, and FetLife, as well as forums like AdultDVDTalk, just to name a few. I’m not the most active poster sexually on these sites (although that’s not to say I haven’t done my share), but I do like to “watch”: to read, to view pictures and postings, and to get turned on by what I see and read. Is it secretive? It is in the sense that others on the sites don’t know when or what I’m reading and getting turned on to, it is.

I watch a lot of porn. You’d probably be amazed just how much I watch, in part because I review an awful lot of DVDs, but I love watching porn online as well. Watching porn is a bit voyeuristic, as I’m watching someone getting naked and getting fucked, and they don’t know I’m watching their activities. It isn’t live sex (memorex, maybe?) but it’s something that I’m watching unbeknownst to them. It’s a huge turn on, as it sparks ideas and basically gets me horny as hell.

Neither of these, obviously, involves watching “in the flesh”, so to speak. I haven’t secretly watched anyone getting undressed or having sex. I watch my partner on occasion as he’s getting undressed or masturbating, and he may not know I’m watching at first, but he knows soon enough as I can’t help but join him. There were a few times in college, although that was listening to sex and not watching it… auditory voyeurism, I suppose. I had a pretty horny roommate, and her boyfriend’s dorm room was not as attractive as ours. Either that, or they didn’t care if I heard them fucking like cats on the other bed. Many a night I woke up to them squealing and moaning, and a few times I masturbated while listening to them, but most nights I either tried to go back to sleep or reached up and flipped the radio on to drown them out (and no, that didn’t make them stop – go figure).

While we don’t have play parties here, at least that I’ve ever been able to find, I would actually love to go to one and watch, whether or not it involved explicit sex. I’d consider that voyeuristic, even though it wouldn’t be secretive. It’d certainly be fun.
