The holiday season is upon us! With only about a month of shopping ahead, it’s time to consider buying a sex toy (or two) for that special someone in your life – maybe even yourself. This month, as part of Cal Exotics’ Sexpert program, I received the Silhouette S8, a flexible vibrator that’s part of the Silhouette line and that can be used alone or with a partner, for free to review.
The Silhouette S8 from Cal Exotics comes in a white box, and is visible through the lid (it’s covered by a plastic insert). Product information is on the sides. The box has a flip-up lid, and inside the box are the vibrator, USB charging cord, general instruction manual (non-specific), and a small instruction sheet for the Silhouettes. It also has a one-year warranty.
This vibrator comes in pink, red, and purple, and I received mine in pink. The color is rich and deep, and a nice change from the standard bubblegum pink color. It’s made of silicone, so it’s phthalate free and odorless. The silicone is smooth with just a bit of drag, and the seam is almost undetectable around the toy (you won’t notice it at all during use). If needed, a water-based lube will make the S8 slick and easy to insert.
The S8 is about 6 1/4″ long overall, with an insertable piece that is about 3” long and about 1” wide at its widest point, with a slim, easy-to-insert tip. It tapers down to a 1/4″ neck before widening to the round clit stimulator. This stimulator is about 2” in diameter, with one side being smooth, and the other having a raised ridge down the center and smaller ridges to each side for stimulation during use.
The thin neck of the S8 is extremely flexible, and it allows you to turn and bend it into a variety of positions. This flexibility allows you to angle the insertable portion, as well as lets you situate the clit stimulator so it nestles and vibrates where you need it. Although it’s flexible, the S8 keeps its shape well during use, so you won’t find the need to readjust it often. With its flexibility and small size, the S8 can be used alone, with a dildo, or with your partner during sex. It can be worn under clothing, but since it doesn’t have a remote it’s not easy to turn off quickly that way.
This vibrator is USB rechargeable, and the plugin port is located on the end of the clit stimulator. When charging, an LED light will flash, and will glow steadily when fully charged. A full charge takes about 2 1/2 hours, and it will run for 30 to 75 minutes on a charge, depending on what intensity you use it on.
The S8 is controlled by a single button on the right side of the clit stimulator (the left side when the toy is inserted). The S8 has a travel lock feature, so you can safely pack it in a suitcase or bag without fear of it turning on. It ships with the travel lock engaged, and pressing the button 3 times quickly will unlock the toy (press it 3 times quickly when it’s unlocked to lock it again). The LED light will flash, indicating the lock feature has been engaged/disengaged.
To start the S8, press the button once. The S8 will start up on its low vibration speed. To increase the intensity, press and hold the button until it’s at the desired level. The LED light will flash faster and faster with the change in speed. To turn the S8 off, press the button again (don’t hold it down). The S8 doesn’t have patterns, but its steady vibration is fairly rumbly, and it’s quiet even on the strongest vibration. The vibrations are strongest in the insertable part, but are also nicely felt through the clit stimulator.
This vibrator is waterproof, so you can take it in the shower or tub with you. It’s also easy to clean. It should be washed before and after use with antibacterial soap and warm water (you can also use toy wipes or toy cleaner). It can be dried with a soft cloth, and stored in its box or in a toy bag.
So, Did It Work?
I like the Silhouette S8. Used alone, it’s not big internally, but it stays in place well and I can feel the vibrations internally and clitorally. I like the size of the clit stimulator, and I can bend the S8 so it hits my clit right where I want it. It also works well with smaller dildos to add a feeling of fullness and some vibrations, and it’s great to use with a partner.
Although the S8 doesn’t have a variety of patterns, I didn’t think this detracted from it at all, as I tend to use most toys on a steady vibration unless there’s a pattern that I really get off on. I like that the button turns the S8 off quickly – the only thing that’s tricky with the button is trying to change the setting during use. You won’t find yourself hitting the button by mistake, but if you’re trying to change the intensity it can be tricky to press and hold, particularly if your fingers are slippery.
