Will This Be Your Friend?

I do love whimsical toys, of all shapes and varieties. I’m also a bit partial to the fun colors like green, orange and blue. I had tried out a Toyfriend a bit ago (that one a rascally rabbit) and thought a differently shaped one would be fun to give a go as well, so when I saw the Cheeky Toyfriend, I decided to request it for review from Good Vibrations.

The Toyfriends are made by Tickler, and come packaged in a white cardboard box with a plastic window and the toy visible inside. The back of the box contains some information about care, use, and cleaning. Inside the box is the Toyfriend, a small booklet featuring the Toyfriends line and other information, 2 AAA batteries (inside the toy’s battery compartment) so you can start using the Toyfriend right away, as well as a plastic stand that the Toyfriend can be set into so it can be stood upright for storage.

The Toyfriends come in several shapes and colors – the one I received is called Cheeky, and it’s a lovely turquoise blue. It’s smooth to the touch with very little drag (except where “Tickler” is imprinted on the shaft). It does have a seam that runs up the back and down the front – you can’t see it but you can feel it with your finger. The seam is not felt during use.

Cheeky has an interesting design, and resembles a bent tulip bulb sitting atop a stalk. The bulbous end has a rounded, quite tapered tip that can be used for g-spot stimulation or concentrated clitoral stimulation. The bulge of the bulb is just under 1 3/4″ in diameter, and wider than the rest of the toy. The shaft is narrower, at 1 3/8” in diameter. Overall, Cheeky is 6” long, with about 4 3/4″ of insertable length.

The base of this vibrator unscrews to access the battery compartment. It comes with 2 AAA batteries already inserted, and a piece of paper covering the connection so they arrive fresh and full of life. An O-ring sits below the threads, making this toy waterproof and safe for use in the shower or bath (it’s much easier to use in the tub).

Cheeky is controlled by pushing the single button on the bottom of its base. While there is no separate off button, pressing and holding the button for about 2 seconds will turn the vibrator off. Pressing the button will start Cheeky on the first mode of high and steady vibrations. Subsequent presses will cycle the vibrator through medium and steady vibrations, pulses, fast pulses, and very fast pulses. Pressing the button again returns you to the high and steady mode.

The vibrations are strongest in the bulb and the tip of the toy, and they can be felt in the shaft although not nearly as much. The vibrations are somewhat throbby, and moderately strong at best to me. They aren’t very loud, and any kind of background noise you have on will mask the sound of the toy nicely.
Cheeky is made of silicone, so it’s phthalates free, odorless, and tasteless. It’s easy to clean with warm water and antibacterial soap both before and after use. It should be dried with a soft cloth and can be stored in its box, in a toy bag, or stood upright on a shelf in its included base. Since it is silicone, only water-based lubricant should be used.

So, Did It Work? I do like the size of this vibrator – the thickness of the shaft is pleasant when in use. I like the tapered tip as well, and the fact that this is waterproof. I wish the rumbly vibrations were stronger, however. The high setting is what I would consider moderate, and nowhere near strong enough to get me off very quickly. As a warm up toy, however, Cheeky’s not so bad. I did have a bit of trouble pushing the bottom button on this one – it’s not hard to push, so when I’d grab it or my fingers would slip down, I’d end up cycling when I didn’t mean to.

Overall, this is a decent vibrator, and would be a good choice if you like a bit of width, and also if you don’t need or want very strong vibrations.

Thank you to Good Vibrations for sending this to me to review! If you’d like to check out Cheeky or other Toyfriends, you can pick them up at GoodVibes.com .
