Room Service

I’ve been reading a lot of erotica lately. What, lately you ask? It’s true – I hadn’t read a lot of it before becoming a part of the Sexis Naked Reader Book Club. Since I’ve joined, I’ve received several themed erotica anthologies to read and get excited over. The book I picked to read for August, Do Not Disturb, is filled with stories about having sex in one of the most exciting places you can – and one of the most exciting places I have – the hotel.

Do Not Disturb (Hotel Sex Stories) was published in 2009 by Cleis Press. It’s an over-sized paperback with 20 stories and is 214 pages long. The type is easy to read, and short author biographies are included at the end. The book has a blog where author news, reader stories, and hotel sex are the topic of the day.

This collection is edited by Rachel Kramer Bussel, a writer whose own works appear in numerous erotica anthologies including this one. Rachel has also written for Bust, AVN, the Huffington Post, Playgirl, Penthouse, and the New York Post, among others. She has also appeared on television, on shows as diverse as “Family Business” and “The Martha Stewart Show.”

In her introduction, Rachel talks about how hotels can be very erotic settings for sex, whether it’s an upscale, 5 star hotel or a rent-by-the-hour dive. Hotels can be used to fulfill many different sexual needs, including secrecy, flirting, affairs, and fantasies. She ends the introduction by relating some memorable moments she has had in hotels herself.

Most of the stories in this anthology feature heterosexual couples, although there are a few stories with same sex couples. This collection also has some three-way action between two men and a woman, two women and a man, and three men. The stories cover lunchtime dalliances, cheating spouses, chance and planned encounters and even hired pleasure.

All of the stories in this collection are well written. While I enjoyed almost all of them, some of the stories didn’t get me going at all or just seemed misplaced in an erotica collection.  Three stories in particular stood out in this category.

“The St. George Hotel, 1890” by Lillian Slugocki  I really liked this story of a woman reminiscing about having a tryst with a disturbing stranger, but it was more of a thriller with elements of sex set in days gone by than an erotic and arousing read.

“G is For Gypsy” by Maxim Jakubowski  This told the melancholy story of a traveling man who pines for a lost love and reminisces about what he no longer has before becoming a lost soul in room after room. I found this story a bit depressing and sad.

“Talking Dirty” by Shanna Germaine  Something’s happened to his wife, and a loving husband tries to break through by recreating a hotel scene with her week after week. This story I also found sad, and while I felt for the characters and the love of the husband, it seemed a bit out of place.

Many of the stories I did find highly erotic. Some really tapped into my fantasies and gave me ideas for future roleplay, while others were just plain arousing to read. My favorite stories in this collection were:

“So Simple A Place” by Isabelle Gray A business woman in Tokyo for 6 months has a flirtation with her Japanese counterpart that builds to something special in a place where they can be anywhere in the world.

“Tropical Grotto, Winter Storm” by Teresa Noele Roberts  A couple finds themselves unexpectedly snowbound at a hotel that features an indoor tropical water park. What to do?

“Hump Day” by Rachel Kramer Bussel  A married couple spends an hour every Wednesday at a seedy hotel for a raunchy, role-playing date.

The best story in this collection for me by far was “The Royalton – A Daray Tale” by Tess Danesi. Here, a woman follows her lover’s instructions, starting in the lobby of the Royalton Hotel. She finds herself living out one of her greatest fantasies in the room, but being blindfolded throughout keeps her guessing about the identity of the third person in the room.

Overall, Do Not Disturb is a book I would recommend if you’ve ever had great hotel sex or fantasized about doing so. Editor’s Pick

  • Reflections Joy by The Countess
  • So it’s easy to imagine myself as the Doctor’s latest companion, using my Reflections Waterproof Glass Vibrator Joy – Blue as a vibrating Sonic Screwdriver. I bet The Doctor’s Sonic Screwdriver doesn’t function as well as the Reflections Waterproof Glass Vibrator Joy – Blue!Plus the thing looks so much like a Dalek I can’t help but lie there, legs spread, and tantalize myself while moaning “Exterminate! Exterminate!”

Note: Non Doctor Who fans might not get as much of a kick out of this review as I did, but I certainly loved it. Any review that likens a sex toy to a sonic screwdriver and mentions Weeping Angels and Dalek’s is an instant win.

Go A Little Bit Dotty

Sometimes small vibrators are the way to go. They are easy to transport, often discreet, and can pack a punch where you need it. This month, as a Sexpert, I was excited to receive the Lil Teaser Dotty to review from Cal Exotics.

The Dotty comes in a small, clear plastic box with the product visible through the front. The back lists some of the toys features. Inside the box is the vibrator, a small instruction flyer, and 1 N battery so you can use Dotty right away.

This vibrator looks somewhat like a large tongue and is suitable for clitoral or vaginal use. It’s a lovely matte shade of lavender, with a darker purple base.

Dotty is 5” long overall, and can be inserted about 3” if you desire, and it ranges from about 5/8” wide at the tip to about 1” in diameter at the fullest part of its body. The difference in size between the body and the base isn’t enough to make Dotty safe for anal use unless you or your partner keeps a finger through the ring.

Dotty’s surface has a soft, velvety texture. No seam is visible anywhere. The top 1 1/4″ is extremely flexible, while the rest of the body is a little squishy, but firm and inflexible, since this is where the vibrating part is. The tip has two small nubs, or dots, under the curve.

The base consists of a cap with a ring. The ring has an opening of about 5/8”, which is large enough to slip your finger through to control Dotty during use. Twisting the base counterclockwise allows access to the battery compartment. Dotty uses 1 N battery, which is inserted + side down, and the battery direction is labeled inside the compartment. An O-ring sits at the bottom of the threads to make Dotty waterproof and safe to use in the shower or tub when the base is securely twisted closed.

Dotty doesn’t have an on/off button. Instead, twisting the base fully closed turns it on. Dotty only has 1 speed, a steady, moderate vibration. The vibration is strongest in the tip and the nubs, but can also be felt down the length of the toy.

Dotty is made of silicone, which is phthalates free and nonporous. It’s easy to clean with antibacterial soap and warm water, or you can use your favorite toy cleaner. Dotty should be patted dry, and stored with the battery removed. Only water-based lubricants should be used.

So, Does it Work? I like the design of this quite a bit, particularly the handle. I can slip my finger through and get greater control of Dotty without having to hold onto the vibrating body of the toy. The handle does transmit some vibration, but when gripped by my finger it’s barely noticeable.

I do wish Dotty had a few more vibration levels or was a bit more intense. For clitoral stimulation, the vibrations aren’t quite strong enough for me to orgasm, but they feel good and work well during foreplay to get me going. The nubs vibrate strongly, as does the tip, and I could get some good pinpoint stimulation with these.  I also wish Dotty used a regular sized battery instead of an N battery.  While the battery life is decent, a standard AAA is much easier to replace.

Internally, Dotty didn’t work for me. The tip is too flexible to get pressure on my g-spot, and without the g-spot stimulation it’s too thin and too short to realy work well for me.

The Dotty is waterproof, and I had no problems with any water getting in the battery compartment, either after a shower or a bath.  It’s also fairly quiet, so with the TV or some music on, no one knew I was using it.

If you’re looking for a smaller vibe with moderate vibrations for clitoral use and don’t need vibration patterns, give Dotty a try! It may be just what you’re looking for.

I’d like to thank Cal Exotics for sending this to me for free to review! If you’d like to give Dotty a try, you can get yours at EdenFantasys by clicking the widget below.

How Sweet It Is

While I love internal vibration, it’s clitoral stimulation that gets me to orgasm the easiest. I’ve tried quite a few clitoral toys and I love variety, so I’m always looking to try another one. The BonBon looked intriguing, so I requested it to review from Babeland.com .

The BonBon is a cute clitoral stimulator from Natural Contours. It comes in a small box with the vibrator visible through the front. The sheer plastic lid slides off to reveal the BonBon, an instruction pamphlet in multiple languages, drawstring storage pouch, and 2 AAA batteries so you can try it out right away.

Like its namesake, the BonBon is tiny. It’s just 3” long (measured on the upper curve) and just a bit over 1/2″ thick at its thickest point. It’s 2” wide at its base, with a slim 1/4″ wide tip for pinpoint stimulation. The shape reminds me of the curved Ouija board dial.

The BonBon is brown, and looks a bit like a piece of chocolate (in fact, the pamphlet calls this “better than chocolate”, but it doesn’t smell like anything at all. The curve allows the BonBon to sit on your pubic bone for pinpoint clitoral stimulation. While this toy can also be used on other areas of the body like the shoulders or man’s perineum, it should never be inserted vaginally or anally.

The battery compartment is located on the right side of the BonBon. The slide-out piece is firmly seated and can be a bit hard to open. Once it’s off 2 AAA batteries can be inserted. The position isn’t indicated on the toy, only in the pamphlet. The one on the bottom goes + side up, while the other goes in the opposite way.

The BonBon only has one button on its top, which cycles through 4 settings:
– high, steady vibration
– medium, steady vibration
– low, steady vibration
– medium pulse pattern

A final push will turn the BonBon off. The vibrations are moderately strong and fairly quiet.

The BonBon is made of ABS plastic, so it’s phthalates-free, latex-free, nonporous, and hypoallergenic. It’s easy to clean with a damp washcloth and antibacterial soap. It is water resistant, but it shouldn’t be submerged while cleaning, nor used in the shower or bath. It should be stored in the provided storage bag when not in use. Both silicone and water-based lubricants are safe to use.

So, Does it Work? The BonBon is pretty fun. While it’s small, it isn’t hard to hold on to during use. The pamphlet suggests that it can be used inside a pair of panties, and indeed it can, but unless they’re really tight it doesn’t stay in place well. It’s too small to really use anywhere else on the body, but clitorally it’s easier to hang on to than a bullet. The vibrations are felt pretty uniformly all over, but they didn’t make my hand numb due to their moderate intensity. . It did work well during foreplay as a warm up, but for solo play I needed some internal stimulation as well to orgasm – it wasn’t quite strong enough to do it alone. At least for the first one.

I do think the order of the vibration patterns is interesting, and actually makes sense if you’re going for multiple orgasms. I find that I’m always super sensitive after the first one and a lower intensity can take me over the top easily at that point.

The pulse pattern was finicky on mine. The first time I tried it, it pulsed 3 times and then quit. I thought it was a 3 and then off pattern, but it never came back on. The second time I tried it, I got 7 pulses before it stopped. At that point, I figured out that the angle I was holding it at was having problems. When I had it level, either side up, it kept pulsing. If I tilted it, it would stop. When I took it level again it would continue its pulsing.

This happened about 5 times, and then my BonBon behaved and pulsed away no matter what angle I had it at. It’s continued to pulse on the setting now with no repeat of this behavior.

Thank you to Babeland for sending this to me for free to review! If you like a moderate intensity clitoral stimulator and would like to try a BonBon of your own, you can get yours at Babeland.com .
