Take It To The Limit?

It’s finally 2013! With a fresh start to a new year, it’s time for a midwinter review of a Cal Exotics product, which I received as part of their Sexpert program. This month I got to review one of the new Luxe toys: the interestingly named Epiphany.

The name of this product, Epiphany,  means a sudden realization or discovery, leading to understanding at a new and deeper level.  I always associate the word with Isaac Newton and the apple, but it applies to the discoveries of Charles Darwin, Albert Einstein, and Archimedes as well.  The real question here was: would the Epiphany vibrator lead to a better understanding of the sometimes elusive clitoral orgasm?

The Luxe Epiphany comes in the standard Cal Exotics frosted plastic box. The toy is visible through a window on the front, and information on the toy is on the sides and back. Inside the box it rests in a plastic tray. The box can be used for storage, or the Epiphany can be stored in a toy bag.

Epiphany comes in 3 colors: black, pink, and blue. I received mine in black. The main part of the toy is silicone, and the surface is soft and slick with no drag. It’s fairly firm, although the tip/head of the Epiphany can be squeezed to some degree.  The toy is divided in half by a silver plated (ABS plastic) band; the control part below the band is ABS plastic covered with a PU cote, and it feels as smooth and soft as the silicone above. The toy is fairly small, at 5 1/4″ long overall, and it’s shaped to fit easily and comfortably in your hand while you stimulate your clit.

This vibrator has an unusual shape, and it’s quite nice to look at: clean and modern. The top is relatively flat, coming to a rounded tip that indents underneath; it somewhat resembles a stylized finger with an upturned bill and is 2 1/2″ long. Two smooth ridges rise towards the back of the top, and the indent between them makes it easy to rest your finger for control, and allows you to slightly maneuver the tip.  On the underside of this piece, as it increases in width to the silver band, is a small nub. The whole underside flares out into the back of the toy.  The tip is about 3/4″ wide, and it widens to about 1 1/4″.

The battery compartment is located on the bottom of the toy. A small tab is located at the very tip of the bottom; the tab should be pressed away from the edge. This causes the cap to come off. Inside, the top of the battery connector is surrounded by a wide o-ring, which prevents water from entering the battery compartment if you use the Epiphany in the shower or tub (make sure the cap is securely snapped on). Below the battery holders, the direction to insert the batteries is clearly labeled; Epiphany runs on 2 AAA.

On the front of the base are two control buttons, slightly raised from the white background. The bottom button turns the Epiphany on (to its first setting) and off, and the top button cycles through the patterns.  Both buttons are easy to press, but not so easy that you’ll change the setting or turn the toy off during use.  Epiphany features 7 functions:

  • low and steady
  • medium and steady
  • high and steady
  • roller coaster
  • fast pulse
  • flutter pulse
  • flutter pulse with long steady pulse

A red LED light flashes or glows to the pattern you’re on.

The vibrations are strongest in the head, but can also be felt in the base. They’re moderately strong and very buzzy, and also quiet – you won’t hear them over background music or television.

Epiphany is easy to clean. It should be washed both before and after use with soap and water, then dried thoroughly before storing. The batteries should be removed before storage to preserve their life. Waterbased lube is recommended.

So, Does It Work? I like the shape and overall design of this clit vibe a lot; the design of the head makes it comfortable to hold and easy to manipulate.  The tip works well to stimulate my clit, and with the small bump on the inner curve, the whole side of the head can deliver vibrations to the clitoral area. It’s certainly firm enough to let me get the pressure I want and need.

The vibrations are moderate, so the Epiphany works better for teasing for me; it makes the toy more of a prelude than the finale, so to speak. The vibrations would work better for me if they weren’t so buzzy and had a bit more strength and depth. It’s not going to give me an orgasmic epiphany any time soon, but it does get me in the mood for more. It’s also great to take into the bath for a relaxing and arousing soak.

Thank you to Cal Exotics for sending the Epiphany to me for review! If you’d like to try the Epiphany, you can pick one up at EdenFantasys by clicking the banner below. Also, don’t forget to check out Club Cal Exotics!
