Dreaming of Butterflies

It’s been a few months of butterflies and sunshine with all the unseasonably warm days and busy nights. Last month, I had fun reviewing Cal Exotics’ Wild Butterfly as part of their Sexpert program. This month, I got to review another butterfly: the Butterfly Dreams.

This vibrator comes in the traditional Cal Exotics white and pastel box, with a picture of the product on 3 sides, and product information on the back and bottom. Inside, the Butterfly Dreams comes in a plastic bag.

The Butterfly Dreams is actually a phthalates free, body safe, TPR sleeve that fits over a long bullet vibrator; the bullet is waterproof, so the toy can be used safely in the tub.  It’s available in 3 colors – pink, purple, and blue – and I received mine in pink.  The toy is 4” long overall, with 3” of insertable length. It’s just 1” in diameter, so it’s suitable for use by anyone.  The sleeve is made of TPR, and it’s soft and squishy – the shaft’s firmness comes from the bullet underneath.  The tip is curved for g-spot stimulation, although it will work best for those who don’t need direct or firm pressure on the g-spot.

The base of the sleeve looks a bit like a butterfly, although it reminds me more of a hummingbird, with spread wings and a pronounced nose and tail. It has a wingspan of about 3”, and it extends about an inch both front and back from the shaft. The nose is rounded for clitoral stimulation, and the tail has 3 little segments – the tail is meant to stimulate the taint and/or anus.

The bullet can be removed by carefully peeling back the sleeve and gently pulling the bullet out. Be careful when removing it, as if you pull too hard you may pull the base of the bullet off. It’s white, and made of plastic. It’s about 3 3/4″ long (2 3/4″ insertable, if desired) and has a diameter that ranges from 3/8” at the tip down to about 3/4” at the silver base.   The battery is inserted by unscrewing the base and placing an AAA battery in, + side down.

Butterfly Dreams features 3 speeds, all controlled by the push button on the bottom.  The button isn’t too easy to push, so you won’t find yourself changing speeds on accident if you’re controlling this toy by hand. If you sit and rock on the toy, however, you may find the button is easier to press inadvertently.  The speeds are low, medium, and high, and all are fairly strong and very buzzy.  When the bullet is inserted into the sleeve, the vibrations travel well from the tip all through the shaft, and also extend out into the butterfly base. They aren’t too loud, and a TV or music will easily mask the sound of the toy in use.

Butterfly Dreams is easy to clean: simply wash with soap and water and allow to dry. You should rinse off the toy before use to remove any lint or particles that may be on the surface.  If you wash the bullet and sleeve separately, be sure to allow the inside of the bullet cavity to completely dry before reinserting the bullet.  The toy can be stored in its original packaging, or you can store it in a toy bag.  Using water-based lubes is recommended.

So, Did It Work? This is a cute bullet/sleeve combo, but together it didn’t work so well for me. Although the size is similar to the Wild Butterfly (the Butterfly Dreams is 1/4″ in diameter smaller), the shaft and tip are much more flexible, and the tip didn’t give me the pressure I like on my g-spot.  Also, the butterfly’s nose and tail were a bit too short for me to get any real stimulation on my clit or anally.  Sitting and rocking on this toy wasn’t the best, as I had no pressure on my g-spot, and I’d occasionally change the speed I was on when the button got pushed. I do like the bullet by itself. It’s longer than many bullets I have, and it works decently for pinpoint stimulation. Plus, it takes an AAA battery instead of watch batteries, which is always a good thing in my book.
