Risqué Business

It’s time for another Cal Exotics review! As part of their Sexpert program, this month I received something different: the fun new Flexi Risqué, a vibrating anal toy with functions and patterns to spare.

The Risqué comes packaged in a clear clamshell case, with the product visible through the front and back. The paper insert describes the many features of the toy. Inside the packaging is the Risqué as well as a small paper that has diagrams of how to insert the batteries. The Risqué I received is black, and it is available in other colors.

This has an interesting design and shape. The bulb is about 1 1/2″ in diameter and 2 1/4″ long. It’s made of ABS plastic with a PU cote (as is the base), so it’s super smooth and silky.  It has a rounded tip that fairly quickly widens to its maximum diameter. There’s a small seam that runs around the bottom of the bulb that is noticeable with your fingers but not when the toy is in use. The product has a very faint smell when removed from the package that quickly fades.

The bulb sits atop a neck that’s about 1 3/4″ long. It’s approximately 5/8” in diameter, so there’s a big difference from the bulb’s width. It widens out and sits in the base.  This neck is made of rubber, and it’s pretty flexible from about the midpoint up, allowing you to move the bulb, or let the neck flex with you as you move.  It looks securely attached to both the bulb and the base.

Risque’s base is quite large – it’s 3” in diameter and over an inch thick. A seam runs completely around, and on the top half are two small white dots labeled “Open” and “Close”. Below the seam is a small white dot that will help you position the halves together and also make sure that the base is securely closed. The base is comfortable to hold firmly in the hand. It’s quite wide when Risqué is fully inserted, making you feel that you’re spread wide open.

Three AAA batteries fit in the base, and their direction is clearly indicated.  An O-ring sits right above the bottom seam to keep water out of the compartment and make the Risqué safe for use in the shower or bath.

The Risqué is controlled by a milky white push button on the bottom. The button is recessed a bit, so it’s easy to press with your finger, but if you’re sitting on a flat surface it won’t depress and change patterns on you.  Pressing the button will cycle through 10 levels of vibrations and patterns, and holding the button for about 3 seconds will turn the Risqué off.

The Risqué features the following levels:

  • High steady vibrations
  • Medium steady vibrations
  • Low steady vibrations
  • Rev
  • Fast pulse, low intensity
  • Fast pulse, high intensity
  • Faster high pulses
  • Slower lower pulses
  • Longer high pulses
  • Fast pulses at lower frequency

The vibrations are quite high and buzzy, although they’re a bit throbbier at the lower frequencies. They are very strongly felt in the tip.

The Risqué can be cleaned before and after use with antibacterial soap and warm water. Extra care needs to be taken where the neck attaches to the bulb to make sure that the very top of the neck is clean. This is easiest to do by flexing the bulb back and forth and cleaning the small section of neck that is revealed. You may want to use a small, soft brush to thoroughly clean this area, and also the area where the neck fits into the base.  Cal Exotics recommends using a waterbased lubricant.  The batteries should be removed before storing, and the Risqué can be stored in a cabinet or in a toy bag.

So, Did It Work? This toy was actually pretty fun, although I’ll admit I was a bit intimidated by the size of the base.  The bulb isn’t something I’m comfortable taking without a bit of warm-up, especially since it’s firm with no give, but after using some smaller toys, I found that the Risqué was easy and comfortable to insert. I didn’t feel impaled with the way the neck flexed, although the base is a bit big to comfortably sit, or really sit uncomfortably for too long.  The small size of the neck keeps it in place well, though, if you’re on your knees or on your back.

My husband found the base easy to grasp and gently thrust with. If he wasn’t holding onto the base when pressing the button, it gave the Risqué a bit of a gentle thrust as well when he’d change the vibration mode on me.

The vibrations are strong, and I could really feel them inside. I preferred the pulsing patterns to the steady vibrations, which is something that’s changed for me over time – the pulsing and changes keep me feeling them and they seem to stimulate me more than just steady. I do love that the Risqué isn’t powered by a bullet and doesn’t have separate controller – it’s stronger than bullet powered anal toys and there’s no worry about where the controller or wires are.

I did find the neck a bit tricky to clean, especially up under the bulb. I have a brush that I used (with soft bristles) that seemed to clean it well enough, although I do wish that there wasn’t the seam there.

Overall, I like the Risqué, and would recommend it if you like strong anal vibrations and enjoy a variety of patterns.
