Bring Your Skin Alive!

My husband and I have been exploring BDSM a lot lately, and while we have the standard items, we haven’t experimented with a lot of sensation toys, other than floggers and paddles. When I saw the Pinwheel at GoodVibrations, I thought it looked like fun, so I had to request it to review.

The Pinwheel comes packaged inside a resealable plastic bag with a Good Vibrations cardboard topper. The toy itself is sealed in a black plastic sleeve, which is great to store it in as long as you’re careful how you cut it open.

This toy is just 7” long overall. It is polished stainless steel, so it gleams in the light. The blue handle is painted over the silver. The wheel itself is only 1 1/4″ in diameter, but even though it’s small, it’s a bit intimidating. Tiny, sharp needles radiate out from the center of the wheel, evenly spaced. They look dangerous and painful, and I have to admit I was a bit worried about trying this out.

The degree of pain the Pinwheel inflicts depends on the pressure you use. It probably won’t break the skin except with immense pressure, as there’s typically 3 of the needles that are in contact with your skin at any one time, which spreads the sensation out and prevents the needles from drawing blood. If the wheel is lightly run over the skin, it mostly tickles, but it’s a sharp tickling sensation. Run it harder, and it downright hurts. (I’ll say here that I’m a bit of a wimp when it comes to pain – it doesn’t take much for me to be hurting and begging for mercy). I found that I could still feel tingles and pangs where the wheel ran over my skin for some time afterwards, and when it was used over that area again, my nerves were really on fire.

The Pinwheel is made of stainless steel, so it’s easy to care for, and with proper care will last a lifetime. It’s doubtful that the points will dull, due to the nature of the play. If necessary, this toy can be boiled, bleached, or run through the dishwater to clean, or it can be washed with warm water and soap. Don’t worry if you get any lube on it – water-based, oil, and silicone lubes won’t damage it in the slightest.

So, Did It Work? Oh, yes! I liked how this felt when my husband ran the Pinwheel over my body, and the tingling sensations really made my skin sensitive. While it tickled more than hurt on the bottoms of my feet, everywhere else my nerve endings felt immensely alive. I could feel phantom pricks from the needles for a long time afterwards, and even see the trails of the needles on my skin – little ribbons of pinpricks all over. It definitely tested my pain tolerance!

This is something that we’ve added to our arsenal, and while it isn’t for every time we play, it’s great for the nights we want sensation play (or even those nights that call for extra punishment before pleasure).

Thank you to Good Vibrations for sending this to me for free to review! If you’d like to try out a Pinwheel of your own and set your skin on fire (in a good way), you can get yours from Good Vibrations today.

Pull Out the Lava Lamps and Groove!

Sometimes a product gets your attention from its name before you ever get a good look at it, while other times it’s the shape, color or design that catches your eye. What first attracted me to this bullet was the name – Glo-Glo A Go-Go. Groovy! What could be better than a product that brings to mind black lights, dancing, and wild grooving combined with glowing nuclear emissions? It’s cute, and catchy, and ultimately I decided I had to review this one.

The Glo-Glo A Go-Go Nuclear Lime Flicker Tip Vibrating Bullet from Topco Sales comes packaged in a clamshell case that’s easy to open and displays the product through the front and back. The insert is black with a green design, and really sets off the green bullet within.

Did I say green? It really is lime. Fluorescent lime that practically glows in the packaging and suggests romping with this toy under the black lights with some Hendrix in the background or getting it on beneath a nuclear reactor. It really is the most wonderful color: fun and funky.

The Nuclear Lime is a corded bullet. The bullet itself is nicely sized at about 2 1/2″ long and 1” wide. Covering the bullet is a luminous TPR sleeve, which is phthalates-free, latex free, and hypoallergenic. The sleeve is squishy and soft and has a small flicker tip about 1/2″ long that extends from its tip. It’s all one piece: there’s no seam to mar the surface. It will take impressions easily, so if you make an indent with your fingernail it’ll hang around for a while before disappearing.

The surface is a bit tacky and picks up hair and other materials with ease, so its best to wash this one both before and after use. The sleeve (which is not removable) wraps around the bullet and extends a bit onto the 30” cord. The sleeve has a very slight odor, but it’s barely noticeable.

The controller for the Nuclear Lime bullet is made of hard plastic in the same fabulous glowing color. It’s a simple controller and operated by a slide button on the front. Above the slider is an LED light that glows red, its intensity increasing relative to the speed you put the bullet on. When this is on high, the light is almost blinding with its brightness.

The back of the controller has a slide-off panel to insert 2 AA batteries. The direction is clearly labeled and the panel easy to remove and replace (but not so easy that you’ll pop it off by accident during use).

The Nuclear Lime bullet is variable speed and offers steady vibrations that go from gentle to quite strong. The vibrations are primarily surface vibrations and buzzy instead of throbbing and are distributed evenly throughout the bullet. While quiet on lower speeds, the bullet is loud on high, and will definitely require some background music (Pink Floyd or the Beatles is optimal) to cover the sound it makes.

The flicker tip is fun to watch in action. It goes crazy with movement as the vibration level is increased. In use it works better on the higher speeds. When on a low vibration the tip stops easily, while on higher you can use it for pinpoint stimulation of the clitoris for a fun flickering feeling unless you press on it too hard.

The unique feature about this bullet is that it glows in the dark. Seriously. Could it be any cooler?  If you hold the bullet near a light source, or place it on a table under a 60 watt or so table lamp for a few minutes, when you shut out the light it has a somewhat eerie green glow. The longer you leave it under the light, the brighter it will glow when you’re in the dark. The glow doesn’t last an amazingly long time, but it lasts long enough to have some giggles before getting down to business. If the glow fades, you can put the bullet back under a light source to recharge it.

The bullet is easy to clean, but care should be taken not to submerge it or get water in the controller. It can be washed with antibacterial soap and water and air dried (if you use a towel, you’ll likely leave lint). Its packaging isn’t ideal for storage, but a simple bag or box will do just fine. The batteries should be removed when not in use.

So, Did It Work? The Nuclear Lime bullet is a fun little toy. The vibrations are strong enough to be effective for me, and the little flicker tip was fun for teasing. It’s a good size to nestle over your clitoris, although it’s a bit large to work effectively inside a pair of underwear. The cord is long enough to keep the controller out of the way, and the batteries lasted a decent amount of time.

My husband got a kick out of priming this under the lamp and then plunging the room into darkness, where the bullet glowed and floated in my hand. It reminded him of the scene in Skin Deep with the battle of the glowing condoms with this glowing green orb making its way around the room. By the time the glow ended, we weren’t inclined to turn on a light and power it up again.

Glowing in the dark really is a novelty feature, but it’s groovy, man! You want to pull out your lava lamps crank some psychedelic music, and have some fun.

Pleasurists adult product review round-up

Y A USB-Bullet? Because Surfing’s More Fun, That’s Y!

I don’t watch a ton of porn on my computer. Well, not a ton, but an awful lot. And it’s always easier to navigate and type with both hands . So what better to go along with internet porn than a bullet to use while surfing? It sounded interesting to me, so I was happy to receive the Y-bullet from Vibrator.com to review.

The Y-Bullet by Lady Calston comes in a pink and white box, with the product visible through the front. The back has some product information, as well as some suggestions for how to use the bullet. It also proclaims “7 ft cord!” Since the Y-Bullet is powered solely by USB (a fairly new feature that I adore for eggs and bullets, as well as other sex toys), I thought a 7 foot cord would be awesome. Not only would that give me extra maneuverability when on the computer, but also from an outlet (more on that later).

The bullet is matte black, and soft and smooth to the touch. It’s made of plastic, which is non-porous and phthalates free. It’s nicely sized at 2 1/4″ long and 1” in diameter. The Y-Bullet does have a noticeable seam running around the middle that can be felt with your fingers, but it isn’t very noticeable during use.

The Y-Bullet isn’t waterproof (and you shouldn’t be taking your laptop into the tub with sex toys anyhow!), so a bit of care is needed when cleaning. It’s easy to clean with soap and warm water (just don’t submerge it) or you can use your favorite toy cleaner. The cord and dial should be wiped with a damp cloth if necessary. Never get water into the USB end – if you do, make sure it’s completely dry before plugging it in.

The cord startled me. I was expecting to see 84” of wire, but the bundled cord looked much too small. And it was. I don’t know who measured this, but the cord is only 39” in length, less than 1/2 of what the box advertises. A big deal? Not really, if you’re at the computer or have a lowered USB hub to plug this into. Planning to plug into the wall? Yeah, not so good.  (The newer version of the Y-Bullet comes with a longer cord which is 7 feet long – good news!)

Since this is USB powered, it must be plugged in to work. While it’s meant to plug into a computer port (and it’s both Mac and PC compatible), the Y-Bullet can also be plugged into a USB adapter and plugged into the wall. Since the cord length is so short, if you really plan to do this, you might want to get a USB extension cord. I’ve decided to only use this bullet to enhance my surfing, so the cord will do just fine.

About midway down the cord is the speed dial. Once the Y-Bullet is plugged in, the dial can be spun with your thumb to select the vibration. This bullet only has steady vibration, but the intensity can be dialed from low (and very quiet) to surprisingly high and strong (and loud to boot). The vibrations are mostly surface vibrations and fairly buzzy.

So, Does it Work? Actually, yes! While the cord length didn’t make me happy, actually using the Y-Bullet did. I liked the size of the bullet, and didn’t notice the seam surfing use. The cord was long enough to plug this into my laptop and place the bullet on my clit, so I could surf away. The bullet is surprisingly strong on high and did manage to get me to orgasm fairly quickly, but it’s much more fun to use on a middle setting to enhance surfing. Since it’s powered by USB, you don’t have to worry about the bullet losing any power no matter how long you go. On high speed this bullet was loud, but on a medium speed it wasn’t noticeable over either the volume of the laptop or background TV.

While the bullet itself doesn’t get too hot, the control did get quite warm when the bullet was used for extended periods (30+ minutes). It didn’t seem to affect the speed or operation of the bullet, and cooled quickly when unplugged.

One other strange thing I noticed was when turning the bullet off, whether it had been on a short time or a long time, the vibrations took a bit to die. They were exceedingly low at that time, and did eventually stop, but not as quickly as I thought they would.

Despite the short cord length, the Y-Bullet is a great little vibrator, and sure to enhance your surfing experience. Thank you to Vibrator.com for sending this to me for free to review!
